The human brain is a highly complex system often dubbed a miniature universe. Its many mysteries have yet to be unveiled. The Brain Science Institute specializes in convergence research that includes neuroscience, nanoengineering, medicine, and genetics through which it aims to understand the neural mechanism responsible for controlling human behavior and to discover clues to overcoming brain dysfunctions. The goal of the Brain Science Institute is to unravel the mysteries of the brain and ultimately becoming the hub of the world’s brain science research. Thanks to a workforce of over 200 people from different academic backgrounds and fields of expertise, BSI continues to strive for solutions to the most elusive and perplexing problems in neuroscience.

Fabrication of micro-nano sized devices or systems
Technological convergence is a vital component of the major research taking place these days. KIST’s Micro-Nano Fab Center(http://www.micro-nano.re.kr/) promotes such convergence by using micro-nano technology to unlock new discoveries in so many research areas from brain science/biomedical engineering to spin/quantum studies. The Micro-Nano Fab Center launched in 2002, providing service to customers throughout Korea, half of Clients are unaffiliated with KIST. This facility offers a full services of micro and nano fabrication process from design to final products of devices basing on 4-, 6- or 8- inch wafer size.
Layout of Micro-Nano Fab. Clean Room
Overview
Total Area of Clean Room: 500m2
– Class 10: 54m2
– Class 100: 108m2
– Class 1000: 338m2
Utility/Wet Scrubbing Area: 500m2
KIST’s Virus Facility was established in response to the growing need for various viral research tools. Viruses are becoming increasingly useful for successfully delivering genes into live cells under in vitro and in vivo conditions. We believe this facility will meet the needs of the Korean research community as well as those of internationally renowned research institutes. If you have any comments or suggestions, please feel free to contact us. Virus Facility, Research Animal Resource Center, KIST
